Stevens County is 2,541 square miles of pure nature bursting with culture and history.
You will find Colville, county seat and business hub with a population of more than 5,000,
one of the friendliest places anywhere. Modern yet historical, you can even get a cup of
Starbucks Coffee. The southernmost town, Lake Spokane, on the Spokane River at Long Lake,
offers premiere waterfront activities. Northport, at the north or "top" of the
county was once one of the largest industrial communities in the state. Now quiet and
quaint it is an access to the Columbia River and Lake Roosevelt, one of the best walleye
fisheries around. Chewelah, a small town surrounded by farms and towering rock cliffs is
also home to 49 Degrees North, the northwest's favorite family ski resort. Kettle Falls
remains the hub for activity on Lake Roosevelt. You can camp right in the middle of the
"Old Kettle Falls" town site right on the lake or go south along the lake
through the historical towns of Rice and Hunters. Ghost towns and old mines are everywhere.
We have many small communities; Summit Valley, Evans, Gifford, Marble, Onion Creek, and more.
Even though they do not qualify as "towns" each is set in the middle of the best
that nature has to offer. Come and take a look around, you will be astounded by the beauty
of the mountains, trees, rivers and lakes.
